Do you feel TMS may be appropriate and beneficial for your patient with major depression?
A simple phone screening/consultation is the best way to start to review current symptoms, tried and failed medications, psychotherapy trials, and insurance information. Once this information is confirmed and medical records have been sent to our office we can set up an initial consultation to discuss the appropriate protocol for treatment. Each patient has a specific protocol based on their individual needs and symptoms, this can be discussed and scheduled at the consultation.
Standard course of treatment is 5 days a week for 6 weeks.
Before your first treatment, The Doctor and staff need to determine how to most effectively administer treatment. Your first session could last up to an hour. You will be provided and asked to wear protective earplugs due to the system’s magnetic pulses making a loud clicking sound. It may feel like tapping on the scalp but does not result in more than mild discomfort.
Drs. Roberston or Walker will identify your motor threshold (the amount of magnetic field strength that provides a movement in the fingers of your right hand). This test is important because it identifies the magnetic field strength that will be used in your treatment. This field strength is specific for each patient to deliver the correct dose of treatment. The test is also redone every 10 treatments.
Next, Drs. will determine the place on the scalp where the treatment will be applied and the magnetic coil will be moved to that location. This will allow you to receive optimal treatment as the technician places the coil in the same spot daily.
